Reiki is a Japanese form of energy healing. We are made of energy and when our energy is not flowing properly or is blocked, we begin to feel fatigued, depressed, and can even develop illness and disease. Reiki is a healing therapy that uses this universal life force energy to balance the recipient's own energy flow. Reiki is a great stress reducer and can help reduce pain and discomfort.

The medical profession is starting to recognize the benefits of Reiki. Locally the George Washington Hospital, the Alexandria Hospital and the Loudoun Hospital Center  are just a few of the facilities beginning to use Reiki in their cancer centers for their human patients and likewise, many veterinary hospitals offer Reiki and massage therapy.

Reiki for Animals
There are no side effects with Reiki. It is safe and comfortable and can be used under any circumstance. It is a wonderful compliment to conventional and alternative therapies. It is very beneficial for animals. The animal does not need to be confined or restrained to be treated. Reiki is readily understood and appreciated by an animal needing help.

During a Reiki treatment the practitioner place hands gently on or near the animal over key positions on their body. Many animals fall asleep during the treatment because they are so relaxed. Reiki is a wonderful healing compliment to Western medicine and is wonderful for reducing the side-effects of chemotherapy. For dying or very ill animals, Reiki is a powerful, yet gentle way to provide comfort, relief from pain, fear and anxiety.

Pet Loss and Bereavement Counseling
The bond between humans and their animals is a powerful one and when an animal companion dies the loss is real and sometimes overwhelming, especially for childen. The death of a family pet is often the first death experienced by a child and too often society trivializes that loss.

Pet loss and bereavement counseling provides support and guidance towards the understanding of a loss, to mourn the loss, and to find ways to remember and memorialize the pet. The death of a beloved pet presents an emotional stress, and long term memories and pain may remain with a person for the rest of their lives.
